How I Went From Construction To Big 4 Consulting

If you are reading this, you are probably interested in transitioning into consulting and am wondering how to go about it.

I recently left a career in construction management to join the consulting world at KPMG and while there is no formula on how to transition into consulting, my journey took on a bit of an unconventional path, so I wanted to share the story of how I did it to inspire and give people insights on how they could do the same.

Here is my consulting story.

Consulting Dream

I studied Civil Engineering at the University of Toronto, and after a few years of that, I realized it wasn’t such a great fit for me and I began thinking about different options for my career.

I learned about consulting from different school clubs and it seemed like such a cool job. Everyone had great speaking skills, dressed in fancy clothes, and seemed so pro. I also realized lots of engineers ended up in consulting, so soon, I was dreaming about becoming one as well!

I went through the phase of reading material from Victor Cheng, studying case interviews, and going to info sessions hosted by firms. I eventually tried applying to some summer…
