4 Tips To Get Selected For Google Local Guides Connect Live
From a successful first time applicant
Last year I was selected by Google out of thousands of applicants to attend Connect Live 2019 at their main campus in San Jose, CA. For those of you who are unfamiliar, Connect Live is an annual summit organized by Google for 200 of the top Google Maps contributors from around the world.
What do the contributors do you ask? They help make Google Maps better through adding things (reviews, photos, locations) onto the map, editing info to make it more accurate, etc.
It was a once in a lifetime opportunity where I got to meet new friends, learn about upcoming tech initiatives from Googlers, share ideas with other top contributors, and celebrate all things Local Guides! You can learn more about my experience below.
My Story
I started posting reviews and photos onto Google Maps around October 2018 because I kept on receiving notifications on my phone to do so. I ignored them at first, but later figured it would be a good way to document the restaurants I went to, and the food I ate.
As time went by, I saw the real world impact I was creating through the views on the photos and reviews I uploaded.
I got hooked and soon reached the Level 6 Local Guides status.
Then, on March 2019, I got an email telling me that the application to attend Connect Live was open. Before that, I didn’t even know this event existed and I subsequently discovered the Local Guides Connect community that I knew nothing…
